- Complex percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) refers to catheter-based coronary treatment in more challenging situations, such as heavily calcified arteries, bifurcation lesions, left-main disease or multiple narrowings. These cases often benefit from additional imaging and specialised techniques.
- Heavily calcified narrowings can be difficult to open with a balloon alone. Techniques such as intravascular lithotripsy use sound-pressure waves to modify calcium so that a stent can be placed and expanded more effectively. The approach is chosen based on intracoronary imaging.
